What is a Herdshare?
Sometimes it's difficult to explain, but try to think of a herd share like a publicly traded company that you can buy stock in. I know, this sounds like a stretch, but stick with me for a minute..
You want access to fresh raw milk, but you don't want to / can't go out and milk a cow every day. But with a herd share agreement, you can buy shares of a local farm’s cow herd. Each share you purchase entitles you to a set amount of milk each week or month. These are like the dividends you would receive if you owned stock in the open market.
After you buy these shares, you become part owner of that herd and can consume your fair share of the milk from the herd you are now part-owner of. The more shares you buy, the more milk (dividends) you get.

FAQ
We'll email/text you each week before we bottle, and you'll have until that week's cutoff time (noon the day before pickup) to add extras or modify your order. We'll send you another reminder when it's ready to pick up.
Consistency is the only way this program will work. Our family has off-farm jobs, kids that play sports, kids that are involved in other extra-curricular activities, and other things that we enjoy doing besides running a farm. Most importantly, it’s impossible to manage supply and demand if people are just dropping by at any and all times throughout the week or month.
Many of our cows are A2A2 or carry at least one copy of the A2 gene, but not all cows, therefore our milk is A1A2.
We prioritize other characteristics such as health, gentle disposition, body condition & maintenance requirements, proper structure (solid feet and legs), maternal instinct, and calving ability. We will not cull a sound healthy animal based on one genetic trait. We also choose to focus on humane treatment and comfort of our animals, milk quality standards, and holistic animal husbandry.
We do not separate milk based on A2 status.
The beauty of a herd share lies in the predictibility and consistent schedule. But we realize that our members have life beyone milk pick-ups. If you must skip a week due to vacation, contact us ASAP to make arrangements.
However, frequent "no shows" or cancellations may result in members being dropped from the herd share.
Yes. Jars and lids must be returned every week and should be in clean condition.
Herd share members are expected to consistently pick up your milk every week, be on time, and make prompt payments. While we hope you choose to stay with us for a long time. If you must cancel, you can do so at any time. We kindly request at least a month's advanced notice.
Our milking herd is made up of purebred Brown Swiss and some Jersey/Guernsey cross cows. We machine milk twice a day, year round and the cows are generally in milk for 10 months. They are happy, health-tested cows that are very well cared for and loved, and fit well into our herd share and our farm. Meet the herd and learn more here.
Our cows have access to pasture 24/7 365 days/year. They have unlimited access to grass hay during the winter months and if the grass is not sufficient during the growing season due to drought. Cows are offered alfalfa hay while they are waiting their turn to be milked and waiting to be let out of the milking area. We also supplement their mostly-forage diet with a locally-milled grain ration, if needed.
